Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience?

Not at all. Beginners are welcome. To make your first session smoother, we recommend attending a Free Intro Session and/or reading Verbal Aikido for Beginners before joining the dojo.

What are the basic rules of the VA Dojo?
  • You may call a Time‑out anytime.

  • Only verbally attack another practitioner when invited.

  • All protocols exist to protect practitioners — learn them before modifying them.

What happens in a VA Dojo session?

Each session includes centering, verbal stretching, and guided sparring based on real-life situations shared by participants. You learn by doing — in a supportive, interactive environment.

Is the VA Dojo a therapy session?

No. The VA Dojo is a practice space, not group therapy. Its purpose is to help you develop embodied reflexes in posture and formulation — not to analyze personal stories.

What if I feel uncomfortable during practice?

You can call a Time‑out at any moment, ask to observe, or share your difficulty with your facilitator. Your safety and comfort are always respected.

Is the VA Dojo suitable for professionals?

Yes. Many members use Verbal Aikido in leadership, education, mediation, healthcare, and other relational fields. The skills transfer naturally into professional life. If you'd like to bring VA to your organization, see our professional solutions.

What should I bring to the VA Dojo?

Bring a real-life situation that created tension for you. A short, clear description helps your facilitator use it during demonstrations or sparring.

What if I miss a session?

No problem. You can join any future session — the VA Dojo is ongoing, and each practice stands on its own.
